Mike Butler joined the firm in 1973. He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge where he studied physics and materials science under a scholarship from Marconi. He was awarded the Gill Prize by the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents for achieving first place in the Final Examinations. He has the Diploma in Intellectual Property Litigation from Birkbeck College, University of London, and is certified to conduct intellectual property litigation in the higher courts. He handles trade marks, patent work in a number of physics, engineering and computer related fields, and designs. He is active in contentious trade mark matters and licensing, particularly in the fields of entertainment and merchandising, and has been involved in many criminal prosecutions for trade mark piracy.
