The European Patent Convention was first written in 1973 and was revised at a Diplomatic Conference in November 2000. There were various reasons for the revision, including the need to take account of developments in International Patent Law (TRIPS, PLT, PCT). EPC 2000 entered into force on 13 December 2007.
